Product Description

Steelix Nylon

Steelix is our ultra-tough budget field watch. The 44mm case is machined from a block of solid 316L stainless steel and packed with all the features Momentum is known for. Outside Magazine’s influential Gear Guide included Steelix in its selection of the hottest new gear of the year, describing it as a “Killer Value”.

Features

Oversize offset screw-down crown

200 Meter Tested
3-5 Year Battery Life

22MM WEB Nylon Band

The ‘Web’ Nylon band is our version of the popular “NATO” band style. It features solid hardware and a heavy-duty steel Momentum clasp. Field watches fitted with this style of band were an essential part of military kit during the Cold War. They were particularly valued because the one-piece, pull-through design meant that, if  you broke one of the springbars, you did not lose your watch. It’s easy to switch out this band without any tools, or, if it gets too dirty, just slide it off and throw it in the washing machine. Today, the Steelix on the Web band is still tough, versatile and ready for any adventure.

    Joel Fritz:

Keeps time accurately, Easy to Read, Good design
I got this watch to replace a Seiko chronograph that was defective. I thought a bit and realized that I’ve never used the chronograph functions and rarely use the date function on the chronographs I’ve had. I revised my criteria to: 1. Appropriate size for my wrist, which is larger than average. 2. Easy to read. 3. Sturdy. This watch meets those 3 and has the bonus of good design. It has a large print dial that doesn’t look like something you’d get from a durable medical device store. A feature that I didn’t really think about is the offset crown–4 o’clock. It’s much more comfortable than the normal placement. In summary, aesthetically it’s a winner. It keeps excellent time. The brand has a reputation for durability that I hope holds true. On my wrist the watch does not look oversize. Watches with a 40mm or smaller case are too small for me. This one is just right.

Better than expected. This thing appears to be very well made and is extremely classy looking. Enjoying wearing it with various 22mm Zulu and Nato bands. Fits the “field watch” category nicely! Great price also.

I’ve had mine for two years now. Daily wear. I”m very tough on this watch, and it has stood up admirably. Considering buying another with the sapphire crystal. The mineral glass performs well, but in certain lighting conditions a few small scratches can be seen. Keeps fantastic time, and looks good on my wrist.

    J Kamino:

Great design, solid construction. I’ve had mine for over a year and have had no problems. The strap is a clever design. I like the easily-readable dial and numbers that can be read without glasses. And the price is right-on!

    Nick:

I have put this watch through its paces during two seasons as a tree planting foreman, and I also was a landscape labourer last year. In spite of the abuse it has been subjected to it’s still ticking away. I was pleasantly surprised by its durability, water resistance, and how long the battery has lasted so far.
Here are a few drawbacks though:
1)The back of the watch is elevated slightly from my wrist by two layers of the watch band and that has caused it to get snagged occasionally on sleeves and various other things during daily use. That’s a bit irritating.
2)The metal rods that hold the band to the watch (I’m not sure what they’re called) have been subject to bending when the body has gotten snagged on things. They’re still solid, but bent nonetheless.
3)The hardware that holds the excess watch band is a bit awkward sometimes and there is no way to remove them without cutting the band.
4)The band begins to smell after a while if you don’t wash it, especially when it absorbs sweat and dirt. In order to remove the odor I had to soak the band in boiling water with apple cider vinegar.

Aside from these, I have no other complaints. I’m happy with how simple and utilitarian this watch is.

Excellent watch. Keeps very accurate time. Have had the watch for almost two years and I do a lot of kayaking and outdoors stuff. It goes with me in the water constantly and I can’t say enough about it. Looks cool, too.

I love the Steelix. Bought one of each = the black face and the blue face. Bought a Swiss Tech natural leather band (which has aged beautifully) and this $130 combo looks like a million. I have put the watch through its paces and even the “normal” mineral crystal holds up well, Needless to say it keeps time flawlessly – I set it via my iPhone and it is dead accurate months later. I wish more manufacturers were as honest about their objectives – the best materials and design for the best price. We all know, it doesn’t cost a lot to make great things and it is a nice change to see someone put it practice.

Got my watch a week ago and must say it is above and beyond what I expected.

Beautiful craftsmanship , numbers that are easily read and especially at night the glow feature works great. The offset winder is awesome… Comfortable to wear.

I own omega/Swiss army/roots (believe you made the roots) watches but wanted something simple to use at my job as an industrial paramedic, a lot of that involves counting rates and such using the second hand which is very visable and makes my job easier.

Well worth the investment, and a watch I will be wearing for years., should be standard equipment on all medics wrists.

    Thank You Sir

    Pete L:

I am super aggressive and anything I wear or use gets destroyed. I am very pleased with this watch and have had it for 4 years. That alone is incredible!!! This watch has seen many miles of oceans, lakes, mountains, trails and abuse in my day to day activities. I like the large face as these old eyes have trouble reading my “high speed” watches.
Just need to upgrade to the sapphire crystal as the mineral one I currently have looks like lace.
Love the Nato strap as twice I have broken a pin and not lost it.
I put a Nato strap on my Titan 2 and it’s bombproof as well.
Not usually one to bother to write a review but great job on a great product.
    Well done team Momentum!!!!!

    >>> Thanks for your kind comments and thanks for taking the time to let us know we got it right! Cheers from Team Momentum

My husband loves his new watch! And with a sapphire crystal, he no longer worries about scratches. The nylon strap is very comfortable. Easy to read face and date, it’s the epitome of your go-to watch. Momentum watches are up there with the very best of them, and at a price that is affordable. I’m proud they’re a Canadian company too!
Thanks Momentum for the fantastic customer service! I’ll be back to buy a watch for myself!

    Jim:

This watch and band look great (got a lot of comments from random strangers telling me as much), is very accurate, rugged (puts up with abuse in the garden and on the water), and is still nice enough to wear on a rare date night. I just lost this same watch on the Gauley River when it got yanked off my wrist as I went flying out of the raft. So suggest you be careful when wearing it in really rugged water-related conditions.

    Thierry:

I bought mine in April 2014, with sapphire crystal in green. I wear it daily, and I’m fully happy with that watch. Very legible. Never had to change the battery yet. Never had to adjust time. Get some attention from people, you know, who looks at watches (I met a guy in Nice Airport, France, with the exact same watch and we begin to chat a little bit).
Of course it shows some slight scratches, but nothing on the crystal. The band (my first NATO), is still looking very acceptable, but after a swim in a backyard pool, it shows some discoloration. I was on the site to find a black NATO, and decided to leave a review.
    Fully happy with my purchase.
